Lesson 11.1 — Personal Care Assistance

Lesson Overview

Personal care assistance is one of the most important responsibilities of Home Health Aides (HHAs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). Many patients require help with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, toileting, dressing, and skin care due to illness, disability, weakness, or cognitive impairment.

Caregivers must provide personal care safely, respectfully, and professionally while protecting patient dignity, privacy, independence, and comfort.
