Ethics are moral principles that guide professional behavior.

Caregivers must:

  • Be honest
  • Respect confidentiality
  • Avoid exploitation
  • Maintain professional boundaries
  • Provide safe and fair care

Ethical Dilemmas

Examples include:

  • Witnessing abuse
  • Patient refusing care
  • Family disagreements
  • Gifts from patients

When uncertain:

  • Contact the supervisor
  • Follow agency policy
  • Protect patient safety

Professional Boundaries

Boundaries protect both the patient and caregiver. Caregivers should not:

  • Share personal financial information
  • Accept large gifts
  • Become overly emotionally involved
  • Perform unauthorized duties
